Keyboard shortcuts

These are the default keys, shown for your computer. Every key that runs a command can be changed; the arrows in the note editor and the keys held while dragging stay as they are. Keys are matched by their position, so they stay in the same place in every keyboard layout.

Every command is also in the command palette (Ctrl+K), which shows its shortcut next to it, and hovering over a control shows its shortcut too. Both always show your own keys, not the defaults.

Changing shortcuts

Open Keyboard shortcuts… from the project menu behind the Flesance mark at the left of the transport bar, or from the command palette. It lists every command with its keys.

  • Change: click a command’s keys, then press the new combination, for example Ctrl+Shift+S. Esc stops without changing anything.
  • Taken keys: if another command already uses the combination, the dialog says which one and asks. Use it here moves the keys to the new command and leaves the other without a shortcut; Keep it there changes nothing. One combination never runs two commands.
  • Remove: the cross next to a shortcut leaves the command without one. It stays in the palette.
  • Reset: the arrow next to a changed shortcut brings its default back. If another command has taken that default in the meantime, it keeps it, and the reset command stays without a key. Reset all returns every command to its default.
Esc and Tab cannot be shortcuts: Esc cancels drags and closes menus, and Tab moves between controls and is the sustain pedal in musical typing. While musical typing is on, letter keys play notes, so a command on a single letter works only while it is off.

Changes apply at once, everywhere: the keys themselves, tooltips, the palette and the hints at the bottom of the screen. They are saved in this browser, or on this computer in the desktop app, so another browser or computer starts with the defaults.
